Open Trough

Open Trough is a product that allows you to control where your attention goes on Bluesky. It enables this by remixing feeds with rules you provide, and gives you analytics about what you have seen and engaged with. Over time it learns your preferences with thompson sampling so that your feed proportions match what you like.

It’s my first attempt at building a product for real real and had hopes to monetize it with cost-plus. I don’t believe there’s a real market for it anymore and am happy to host it on a small scale.

Most of it was created on my phone during parental leave which is an insane thing to say.

Technologies used:

• Modal (httpx / fastapi stack): i have fallen in love with Modal. It’s amazing
• Tinybird (was clickhouse cloud but that is insanely expensive)
• Turbopuffer (the cheapest ANN on the market)
• Supabase – so lovely
• Cloudflare – also lovely
